These are two things that are a little bit different - and almost intangible if youre not on the inside feeling it - but I think theyre two of the biggest drivers of the reasons that people stay.Employees build their own places at Facebook. On one level, thats about daily tasks The company is open and transparent about its goals, so staffers are expected to take that context and work with autonomy to further the mission. That is a really important part of feeling like youre contributing at Facebook and the work that youre doing matters, Goler says.Secondly, creating a place at Facebook often means integrating personal lives into the work community. Were this one single community of thousands of people, but were also a set of overlapping communities in many ways, Goler says. Theres your larger team and your smaller team and your ad-hoc team that isnt about your hierarchy. But then theres the parents group and the working moms group, the mountain bike on weekends group.Facebookers have created thousands of groups internally more groups than there are employees, in fact and Goler says this offers a sense of personalization at scale. You almost design your own social experience and community internally, including smaller overlapping communities that dont have anything to do with the specific work that youre doing. I think that makes it a really special place.The integration of home and work lives helps employee s feel supported when they are going through a tough time personally. We show up so well, and I think thats all part of being a community, Goler says.Beyond smaller community groups, Facebook on a larger scale implements policies that support people as they go through all the stages of their life. People would tell you they want to be good workers, family members and, friends. Weve tried to build a set of policies that support that in every stage of life, Goler says. One recent new policy is Facebooks extended bereavement leave. Single-Pilot Resource Management (SRM)Single-Pilot Resource Management (SRM)Single-pilot resource management, or SRM, is a derivative of crew resource management (CRM) and is a relatively new term that applies to single-pilot operations. CRM was implemented to help crewmembers communicate effectively while using all available resources to identify and manage risks before, during, and after a flight. Single-pilot resource management is the saatkorn thing, but for pilots who operate without fellow crewmembers. SRM was implemented as part of the FAA FITS program. Single-pilot operations are inherbeiently more dangerous than operations that involve crewmembers. A single person can be more easily overwhelmed when faced with multiple decisions to make. Task management can quickly become difficult for even seasoned pilots when things go wrong. For example, in the same emergency, a dual-pilot crew can divide the responsibilities and tasks in half, and each accomplishes their given tasks. Air line pilots can be assisted by flight attendants, off-duty crew members, and even passengers in emergency situations. SRM Concepts A single pilot has nobody to help him. The good news is that through SRM, a single pilot is taught to manage workload, mitigate risk, correct errors, and make good decisions- just the same as a crew would do with CRM concepts. Aeronautical Decision Making (ADM) and Risk Management (RM) SRM training teaches pilots appropriate decision-making strategies and risk-management techniques. Each flight has some level of risk to it pilots should know how to do a risk assessment, how to reduce risk, and how to make decisions based on all available information.Task Management (TM) Task management is all about prioritizing and identifying tasks that can be completed before, during, and after a flight to ensure efficient operation without task overload. Automation Management (AM) Todays flying environment is filled with TAA and glass cockpits, so automation manag ement has become a very important concept. Pilots should practice good AM by programming information into avionics before a flight if possible, and by knowing precisely how their systems operate. An extensive knowledge of automation is extremely important for single pilots.CFIT Awareness Controlled flight into terrain (CFIT) continues to be a problem, and single pilots must identify the risks associated with each flight before, during, and after flying. Knowing terrain and aircraft capabilities is essential. Situation Awareness (SA) Situational awareness is a no-brainer for single pilots. Pilots must stay aware of their position at all times. Its easy to get confused, especially in the clouds, and lack of situational awareness quickly leads to very bad days. Pilots should use the above concepts to help them remain aware of their location, route, altitude, etc. at all times. The 5 Ps A helpful way for a pilot to assess his or her situation as a single pilot is to utilize the conc ept of the 5 Ps, which is a practical way for the pilot to analyze the risks associated with the elements of a flight. Plan The pilot should accomplish all preflight planning and be prepared to adjust the flight plan as necessary during the flight. The plan also involves circumstances surrounding the flight planning process, like gathering weather information and assessing the route.Plane The airplane is obviously a significant element of the flight, and the pilot should asses the risks associated with inoperative equipment and the general shape of the airplane.Pilot The pilot should assess himself with a risk assessment checklist and the IM SAFE checklist, but should also assess his currency and proficiency, as well as the conditions of the flight in relation to his abilities and his personal minimums. Passengers Passengers can present challenges like illness, fear, discomfort, and distractions. Its best for a pilot to plan for passenger challenges ahead of time, like providing the m each with water and sick sacks, and briefing them about what will occur.Programming Advanced avionics must be understood completely and programmed correctly. The thing about Yoga with Adriene is that once you start talking about her, you realize everyone in your life is secretly obsessed with her. The friend who first recommended Adriene has done her videos almost daily for at least a year. Another woman I know keeps a count of how many consecutive days shes done Adriene sessions - the millennial version of a snapstreak. Shes on 436. I know this because she posts the running tally every evening on Instagram Stories.Adriene has posted hundreds of free videos, one for every mood. Her hour-long classes are just as sweaty and challenging as any vinyasa class in a big city studio. Theres a 20-minute video for stretching after travel. Yesterday, I did a 7-minute routine without ever getting off the couch. All are filmed in her Austin, Texas dining room, usually with her cattle dog, Benji, napping in the background. According to the story (and alleged angered Yahoo employees), workers must either comply with the new changes or resign.Many of the hundreds of workers this new mandate will affect did not take the news happily. A lot of the remote workers originally took their positions because of the flexibility in the roles.And Mayers reasoning(s)? In part of an internal memo, she writesTo become the absolute best place to work, commun ication and collaboration will be important, so we need to be working side-by-side. That is why it is critical that we are all present in ur offices. Some of the best decisions and insights come from hallway and cafeteria discussions, meeting new people, and impromptu team meetings. Large animal veterinarians usually make up the smallest percentage of graduates of veterinary schools. Professional Associations The American Veterinary Medical Association is one of the most prominent veterinary organizations, representing more than 80,000 practitioners. Other groups for large animal practitioners include the American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP) and the American Association of Small Ruminant Practitioners (AASRP). Veterinarians who are board-certified in a particular specialty area (ophthalmology, oncology, surgery, etc) generally earn significantly higher salaries as a result of their adv anced education and experience. Job Outlook According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the veterinary profession will expand at a rate of 9 percent through 2024. This is faster than the average for all positions considered in their salary survey data. Since most vets choose to go into small animal exclusive practice, there should be a continued need for large animal veterinarians in the marketplace, especially in rural areas.

Revised numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) show that 47,000 more jobs were added in April and May than previously reported. That brings the total number of jobs created during the first half of 2017 to nearly 1.1 million, with job gains averaging about 180,000 per month since the start of the year.Healthcare, professional and business services, and financial services were among the industries showing the most job growth last month.The unemployment rate rose slightly in June to 4.4 percent, according to the BLS. Thats totenstill near a 16-year low. Workers with specialized skills are in particularly short supply. The unemployment rate for college-degreed workers 25 and older was just 2.4 percent in June. And the unemployment rate for some jobs is minuscule - just 1.1 percent for computer programmers, for instance, and 2.1 percent for pay roll clerks.The BLS also recently released the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) for April. According to the report, there were 6 million job openings in the United States at the end of April, a record high.Heres what these numbers mean Companies are in hiring mode at a time when job candidates - especially those at higher skill and experience levels - are becoming harder to find. Ill have days at a time (weeks even) where Im running from event to meeting to errand to catch up to date to phone call to Lyft ride to meal. It feels fast and nevereneding. When those things become stressful and completely not enjoyable, its when Im multitasking, on my phone, doing multiple things at once, and barely paying attention or present with the people around me. Those are the times that when someone shows up to a situation with their own sh*t, I feel in their sh*t. The grumpy driver will piss me off. The emotional friend will overwhelm me. The tough meeting will stress me out. Because Im not present to begin with. Because Im not using my own power to control the energy and add value to other people.Becausewhen we leave people better than we found them, we leave ourselves better, too.It easier than you think. It just requires a little bit more presence and a little less being in your own head.First, make eye contact and smile. Look at people. In the eyes. Smile at people when theyre in your energy field. Even if theyre not smiling at you. It matters more than you know. Baristas, Besties, Family, Strangers, Driver. They all deserve the simple, human gestures.Second, ask. Its the easiest way to make someone feel seen, by asking themrealquestions. Whether youve known them for five minutes or fifteen years, ask meaningful questions. Practice curiosity. Youll learn something in every encounter, and youll leave both of you feeling more connected even if its just for a chance encounter in time.Third, appreciate. Compliments are wonderful. Gratitude is life-giving. And the more we can share our appreciate for people in the moment when theyre face to face with us, the better off both people are. Appreciate the way they show up. Show gratitude for the sound of their laugh. Give thanks that theyre in your life.TOthem. Right then and there.These will make your life better and theirs. I find, personally, these can be some of the hardest tiny steps to do with people we know the best. But they deserve it the most. And youll find new levels of your relationship if you do.
